About NABCEP

NABCEP was founded in 2002 as a non-profit 501 (c)(6) corporation with a mission “to support, and work with, the renewable energy and energy efficiency industries, professionals, and stakeholders to develop and implement quality credentialing and certification programs for practitioners.” The first NABCEP Solar PV Installer certification exam (now called PV Installation Professional) was administered in 2003. The Solar Heating Installer certification was first administered in 2006 and the PV Technical Sales Professional was launched in 2011. 

NABCEP is committed to providing a certification program of quality and integrity for the professionals and the consumers/public it is designed to serve.  NABCEP’s programs are administered to the highest standards for certifications and testing. The NABCEP PV Installation Professional and Solar Heating Installer Certifications are accredited to the ISO/IEC 17024 standard by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). 

NABCEP’s goal is to develop voluntary national certification programs that will:

Promote renewable energy
Provide value to Solar Installation and Sales Professionals
Promote worker safety and skill
Promote consumer confidence

NABCEP  PV Installation Professional Certification Information


The NABCEP PV Installation Professional certification is a voluntary certification that provides a set of national standards by which PV Installation Professionals with skills and experience can distinguish themselves from their competition. Certification provides a measure of protection to the public by giving them a credential for judging the competency of practitioners. It is not intended to prevent qualified individuals from installing PV systems or to replace state licensure requirements.

The target candidate for this NABCEP certification is a range of installation personnel including  but not limited to: installers; project managers; installation, foreman/supervisor, and designers.

The NABCEP PV Installation Professional certification has been developed in accordance with the best practices of the certification field. NABCEP is a member of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (I.C.E.) and has endeavored to follow the requirements of ISO/IEC Standard 17024: General Requirements for Bodies Operating Certification Systems of Persons.

NABCEP Solar PV Installation Professional Certification is North America’s only renewable energy personnel certification that has been ANSI accredited to the internationally recognized ISO/IEC 17024 standard.


PV Installation Professional Exam

This certification demonstrates a high level of skills and experience in the solar installation field that can distinguish you from your competition.  Training and installation experience are required before being accepted by NABCEP to sit for this exam.  


NABCEP  Solar Water Heating Installer Certification Information

The NABCEP Solar Heating Installer Certification is a voluntary certification that provides a set of national standards by which solar heating installers with skills and experience can distinguish themselves from their competition. Certification provides a measure of protection to the public by giving them a credential for judging the competency of practitioners.  It is not intended to prevent qualified individuals from installing solar heating systems nor to replace state license requirements.

The target candidate for NABCEP certification is the person responsible for the system installation (e.g., contractor, foreman, supervisor, or journeyman).

The NABCEP Solar Heating Installer Certification has been developed in accordance with the the certification field’s best practices.  NABCEP is a member of the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA) and has endeavored to follow the requirements of ISO/IEC Standard 17024: General Requirements for Bodies Operating Certification Systems of Persons.

Eligibility Requirements

All candidates for the NABCEP Solar Heating Installer exam must have experience in the installing Solar Heating systems and  a specified level of training or work experience. All candidates must pay for and complete an application by the exam deadline.  The specific requirements for each candidate vary by category. It is important to review the Certification Handbook for this exam thoroughly in order to choose a category under which you will apply. In order to qualify for this exam you must meet all of the requirements for your chosen category.

What is IGSHPA?

The International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) is a non-profit, member-driven organization established in 1987 to advance ground source heat pump (GSHP) technology on local, state, national and international levels. Headquartered on the campus of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, IGSHPA utilizes state-of-the-art facilities for conducting GSHP system installation training and geothermal research. With its access to the most current advancements in the geothermal industry, IGSHPA is the ideal bridge between the latest technology and the people who benefit from these developments.

Mission
